Joel M. Warsh's Expert Contributions
Is it okay if my baby has swallowed Vaseline?
I believe it is non-toxic. I would call poison control to be sure. I would get seen by your doctor READ MORE
Is Septalin safe for children?
I don't think there should be any issues with it. I unfortunately can not say for sure as is the case with any holistic product. There are minimal to no research on the long term safety of this or most natural products in kids. I looked through the ingredients and they seem benign and should not be an issue in children. Like anything, there is always a chance for a reaction from any medication/natural product so start at a low dose and work up. READ MORE
What are the key pros and cons of circumcision in kids?
That is true. Boys do have a slightly lower risk of urine infection. Other than that, it is generally done for religious or cosmetic purposes. There is not a medical need for a circ READ MORE
Can children skip a few milestones as they are growing up?
Yes. That is fine and common. Many children never crawl. As long as everything is normal, I would not worry too much about it. You can work on crawling. Do tummy time and place objects she wants a foot or two in front of her. Don't have any objects near by she can climb on. Make sure it's on a surface that's easy to crawl on, such as carpet or mats. I believe my son has ADHD. How can I tell for sure?
That is very young to think about ADHD. We generally don't think about that until school age. This is something I would discuss with your doctor READ MORE
My son wants to start weight training at 15 years. Is it safe?
We generally recommend no weight training until the completion or near completion of puberty which generally happens around 15-17ish. Before then, using body weight for exercise is best. If he is finishing puberty, it should be ok to start weight training. Start with very low weight and lots of reps. READ MORE
How can I get my daughter to eat healthier foods?
The first and easiest thing to do is not to purchase it. Don't have it in the house and then she can't eat it. It should only be consumed as treats every once in a while. READ MORE
When should a child be given antibiotics for cough?
That is a difficult question to answer. It is based mostly on the exam and history. For the most part, a cough with no other symptoms, does not need antibiotics. If it worsens after 1-2 weeks and there is fever, then it may need antibiotics. Every case is different so you need to speak to your MD. READ MORE
Why does my child wheeze every morning?
I would speak to your MD about it. Check his tonsils and make sure he doesn't have sleep apnea. Consider trying albuterol for true wheezes. Video tape it happening. READ MORE
Why does my child have a consistent fever?
No, 99.9 is not a fever. A fever is above 100.4. READ MORE
My little one is passing extremely watery stools for the last 2 days. Could it be diarrhea?
It is likely diarrhea. There are a lot of viruses going around. It is likely benign, but if you are concerned, go to your MD. READ MORE
When can I introduce my baby to packaged milk?
It is generally recommended around 12 months. READ MORE
Is it wrong for small children to do yoga?
No, I think yoga for kids is great! Go for it. As long as they have a teacher trained in working with kids, it should be fantastic. Any exercise using your body weight is totally fine. READ MORE
What are the symptoms of dengue in a child?
That is a difficult question, what makes you worried about dengue? Please seek medical care immediately. READ MORE
Is it okay for small children to do yoga?
No, it is perfectly fine. Go for it. Make sure the teacher is well trained in working with kids. READ MORE
My baby has been passing extremely yellow urine. Could it be jaundice?
I don't think it is a sign of jaundice. Jaundice usually has yellow skin. Yellow urine usually means mild dehydration. I would have that evaluated by your MD. READ MORE
After a head injury my daughter is not able to speak. What could it be?
Could be a concussion, but I would have that evaluated immediately. READ MORE
Is it safe to give antibiotics to a baby for a cough?
It is hard to say without evaluating. Coughs are mainly viral, but if your MD thinks there is bronchitis or pneumonia, then antibiotics are indicated. READ MORE
My baby is in her rolling phase. However she didn’t roll for an entire day. Is everything okay?
That is fine. These things wax and wane. READ MORE
My baby makes a whistling sound when sleeping. What does it mean?
I would speak to your physician and videotape it. Likely benign, but worth a discussion. READ MORE
