  • Is it possible to gain the fat back after liposuction?

Hi and Happy New Year! You are considering abdominal lipocontouring and concerned about risks and regaining the fat removed. These are both excellent questions. First, the risks associated with liposuction are usually rare in well experienced hands, and include seroma (fluid collections) and skin injury, especially with more aggressive liposuction. If conservative, the "sequelae" (expected phases of healing) will likely include some swelling and bruising, that lasts for a few weeks. With respect to gaining the fat back that depends on your diet and corresponding weight changes. If you watch your weight daily and maintain it within 5 lbs of your weight at about 6 months after surgery, the fat around your abdomen will not come back. On the other hand, if you gain weight, you will more likely see an expansion of fat cells "throughout your body", including the abdominal area where you had the liposuction. Since all the fat cells were not removed with safe liposuction from the abdomen, the remaining fat cells can expand as normal fat cells do with high caloric intake and weight gain. READ MORE

  • How long is a recovery from a breast augmentation?

The recovery means different things to different people. Sounds like you are concerned about when you can return to work after a breast augmentation. If your work does not involve using your arms for strenuous activity, you usually return to work the next day or same day. Larger implant and placement under the pectoralis muscle tend to be more uncomfortable. If you choose smaller implants (less than 350 cc each) and stay above the muscle, you will feel fine within a few hours after surgery and should be able to do paper work at a desk that same day of surgery. If you obtain submuscular implant, you may feel, at the worst like an elephant sitting on your chest for about 24 hours. Then you accommodate and feel progressively better. READ MORE

  • Does a hair transplant require invasive surgery?

Hair transplanting with modern follicular unit extraction (removing one or two hairs with a circular type machine) is not invasive and minimally painful. The hair transplant will last as long as the hair would have lasted in its original source location. READ MORE

  • Are there any side effects from hair transplant surgery?

Properly performed modern hair transplantation with follicular unit extraction and implantation does not involve cutting into the scalp to remove a large segment of hair bearing scalp. This minimizes swelling and soreness that occurs after the procedure. "Complete recovery" means different things to different patients. If it means ability to return to do work at a desk, one can do it within a day or two. However, most patients prefer to wait at least until their donor sites regrow the hair. READ MORE

  • What are the best procedures to prevent/help with aging in the face?

This is a very broad question. the best way to obtain a response is to visit a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon for a first hand evaluation. In general there are multiple modalities to reduce wrinkles and each depends on many factors. If you are under 35 and these are your first wrinkles, Botox is what I usually recommend. READ MORE
