Specializing in all aspects of plastic surgery, Dr. Smiley is best known for his high lateral tension tummy tuck technique, but is equally sought after for breast, face and liposuction procedures. His philosophy of a comprehensive approach and his keen for artistic mastery of cosmetic plastic surgery have allowed him to develop an extensive expertise in: breast augmentation (augmentation mammoplasty), breast lift (mastopexy), breast reduction (reduction mammoplasty), tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), liposuction (lipoplasty), face lift / facial rejuvenation (rhytidectomy), eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), nose surgery (rhinoplasty), and ear surgery (otoplasty). A native of Ohio, Dr. Smiley graduated from Whitmer High School in Toledo, received his Bachelor of Science from Ohio State University in 1989, and received his medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio in 1994.
He attended Wayne State University for his internship and surgical residency programs. After his general surgery training at one of the most intensive surgical programs in the nation, he completed three post graduate fellowships – a microsurgery fellowship, a hand & microvascular surgery fellowship, and a plastic and aesthetic surgery fellowship at the renowned RUSH Medical Center in Chicago.
Making people smile about their bodies, he is board-certified in plastic surgery by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). The mission of the ABPS is to promote safe, ethical, efficacious plastic surgery to the public by maintaining high standards for the education, examination, certification, and continuous certification of plastic surgeons as specialists and subspecialists.
Regularly participating in accredited continuing education in cosmetic surgery, Dr. Smiley is an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons of which only board-certified plastic surgeons can be admitted. He is also an active member of the Plastic Surgery Foundation for which he has received 1st place awards for his publications and presentations in 2001.
