The TMJ could be out of alignment and the condyles are putting pressure on wrong side of disc in joint.
You must get a consult with dentist who understands TMJ pain.
I would have you come in for an exam so I can determine if your TMJ is inflamed. When playing contact sports I always recommend a mouth guard to protect your teeth and jaw.
Try taking some anti inflammatory medication and see if that calms the jaw down and do make an appointment to see your dentist. If you are in the Tampa area give my Westchase / Carrollwood location a call: General and Cosmetic Dentistry of Tampa
You mat have popped your jaw out of place. Try to see a doctor for an adjustment. You can take ibuprofen to reduce inflammation, 20 mins moist heat, 1 min cold, 10 mins moist heat, 2 times a day for 7 days. Try to chew small pieces of food/soft food diet for 1 week.
This sounds like a musculoskeletal or a joint issue. Please see a dentist ASAP. You may benefit from having some sort of a night guard to relieve your symptoms.
Yes, if pain persists have the dentist evaluate. Dr Kristi
