Urologist Questions Epidermoid Cyst

Do epididymal cysts go away eventually?

My 14 year old son has an epididymal cyst, but the doctor feels like we should just leave it for now and monitor it. See if it goes away. Is this a smart thing to do? Do epididymal cysts go away on their own?

An epididymal cyst is a cyst-like mass in the epididymis that contains clear fluid. Pididymal cysts and spermatoceles do not cause symptoms. Proper diagnosis can be done by scrotal US.

Yes, if they are an insignificant size, do nothing. One can asses them in 6 months. If the size is enlarging and they are causing annoyance, consult a urologist.
Epididymal cysts or spermatoceles are benign growths that can sometimes increase in size and cause pain. If they are painless and otherwise not bothersome to the patient, then treatment is often not necessary. Although spontaneous resolution is possible, often, they tend to increase in size. Evaluation by a pediatric urologist in this case would be beneficial.
