Proctologist Questions Diverticulitis

Is surgery necessary for diverticulitis?

My father has been diagnosed with diverticulitis and the doctor is talking about surgery, just after our appointment. Is surgery really necessary for this condition?

Sometimes, depending on the stage of the disease.
It may or may not be necessary but it is important for your father to be evaluated by a colon and rectal surgeon. There are many different circumstances but if your father needs surgery, it is much better to be done electively rather than as an emergency.
