    The short answer is yes! the dentist needs to know the depth and severity of the cavity. Also, x-rays are taken to diagnose if there are any cavities between the teeth. with modern technology the dosage of radiation with new digital x-rays is about 75% less than what they were years ago!     The most obvious disadvantage is that you must be compliant, i.e. taking it out every time you eat or drink, remembering to put it back in, and most importantly, not losing any of the aligners. Use according to directions and your smile will shine outstanding! READ MORE

    This is not an easy question to answer! There are so many variables besides your daughter's age. This could be a purely dental or even medical condition. Does she sleep well, tired during the day, suck her finger(s), wet her undies over night, high stressed/pressure from siblings/parents? Are there obvious wear facets, none or ground down to the gums at the canines or front teeth? Best suggestion would be to see a pediatric dentist.     First, pain is relative; what hurts me may not bother you. Second, in order to move teeth, there must be pressure; the more pressure the more "pain" closing a space should be slow and steady not in one fail swoop (that would be painful not to mention damaging the roots).     Bad gums should be addressed regardless of braces or not! They could be due to bad oral hygiene or an underlying medical condition, but at 17, you should be able to get it under control!!
