Get to know Naturopathic Physician Dr. Maura A. Scanlan, who serves patients in Issaquah, Washington.
In private practice for over two decades, Dr. Scanlan is a naturopathic physician and licensed acupuncturist who guides patients on their journey to optimal health at A Path to Natural Health in Issaquah, Washington. Combining naturopathic medicine with acupuncture to treat most conditions, she practices general medicine with a focus on women’s health, fertility, autoimmune conditions, pain management, food allergies, and digestive system complaints.
Her initial evaluation includes a current assessment of your blood. This gives her an idea of one’s basic metabolic state, such as glucose, lipids, red blood cell and white blood cell counts, autoimmune markers, vitamin D, thyroid levels, and other hormones. She commonly evaluates food allergies as well, since they can be the underlying cause of many illnesses. After analyzing all of the results, she creates an individual treatment plan based on unique needs.
Academically, Dr. Scanlan earned her Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine and a Master of Science degree in Acupuncture at Bastyr University in Kenmore, Washington. As part of her undergraduate training, she received a Bachelor of Arts degree at the School of Natural Science from Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts, and an Associate’s degree in Pre-Medicine from Schiller International University in London.
Her diverse professional background has enabled her to combine Eastern medicine and herbalism with the Western medical practice. As a mother to a child with deadly food allergies, she personally knows how challenging day-to-day living can be for people with food related health conditions. As she has met so many people with chronic health conditions who have felt “dropped” by the modern mainstream medical system, she is passionate about helping people take back control of their own health – naturally.
The practice of naturopathic medicine includes modern and traditional, scientific, and empirical methods. Naturopathic medicine is a distinct primary health care profession, emphasizing prevention, treatment, and optimal health through the use of therapeutic methods and substances that encourage individuals’ inherent self-healing process. Naturopathic physicians diagnose, prevent, and treat acute and chronic illnesses to restore and establish optimal health.
