Get to know Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon Dr. Jordan Hollsten, who serves patients in San Antonio, Texas.
Dr. Hollsten is a board-certified ophthalmic plastic & reconstructive surgeon treating insurance, private pay, and cosmetic patients for reconstructive, revisional, and trauma eye surgeries in South Central Texas and surrounding regions. She practices alongside her father, Dr. Donald Hollsten, at Eye & Facial Plastic Specialists in San Antonio, Texas.
Helping patients to achieve natural, fresh versions of themselves, the father-daughter duo of oculoplastic surgeons at Eye & Facial Plastic Specialists are committed to patient-centered care in a family-friendly environment. They treat patients of all ages from newborns through centurions, from the entire state of Texas, Mexico, and many other national and international locals. They pride themselves on treating patients with one-on-one comprehensive care in all aspects of their practice, from medical needs to cosmetic desires.
Like her father, Dr. Hollsten believes in working closely with her patients one-on-one, discussing treatment options with them to address their individual reconstructive and aesthetic goals. She continues to improve her Spanish fluency by regularly working with non-English speaking patients from South Texas and Mexico.
Named a Top Doctor by Women in Medicine in 2020 and recognized as Super Doctors Rising Stars in 2020, she currently splits her time as an oculoplastic surgeon in both private practice and at the Ophthalmology Clinic at the South Texas Veterans Health Care System. She also works actively as a mentor and teacher for the ophthalmology residents at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
From a young age, Dr. Hollsten knew that she wanted to practice medicine. Throughout high school, she spent her spare time on the weekends working as a receptionist in her father’s medical office, at swim practice or competing in swim meets. After graduating from Churchill High School in San Antonio, she attended Rice University as a Division I scholarship competitive swimmer, earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 2003.
From there, she went on to obtain her medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 2009. She completed her internship at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, her residency within the Department of Medicine at the University of Florida in Gainesville, and her fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
Throughout her years of training, Dr. Hollsten participated in numerous other medical projects and passions, including setting up and coordinating the first International Ophthalmology Medical Conference at the University of Florida in Gainesville, as well as working in breast cancer research at South Texas Oncology & Hematology (now the START Center).
Attributing her success to family support, diligence, and a love for the variety of her specialty, she is board-certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology, an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists in the United States of America.
To advance her professional efforts, she remains a member of the Bexar County Medical Society, the San Antonio Society of Ophthalmology, the Texas Medical Association, the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the American Medical Association.
Ophthalmic plastic & reconstructive surgery is a specialized area of ophthalmology that deals with the management of deformities and abnormalities of the eyelids, lacrimal (tear) system, orbit (eye socket), and the adjacent face. An ophthalmic plastic & reconstructive surgeon is an ophthalmologist (medical doctor and eye surgeon) who has completed additional training in plastic surgery as it relates to the eyes and their surrounding structures.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Hollsten loves working in her garden, writing, and reading voraciously. Above all else, her favorite thing is to travel; bonus if it allows her to spend more time with her family, friends, and Goldendoodles, Frankie & Ozzie.
