Dr. Bekele’s journey in medicine began when he earned his Doctor of Medicine Degree from the Faculty of Medicine at the Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia in 1980. His passion for endocrinology led him to complete his internship and residency at the Addis Ababa University and the Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Bekele further expanded his expertise through fellowships in endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism at prestigious institutions such as the McGill University in Montréal, Canada, and the Good Samaritan Medical Center/Carl T. Hayden VA Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona, with rotations at the Mayo Clinic,  Scottsdale, and the National Institute of Health (NIDDK, NIH), Phoenix, Arizona [Clinical and Research Fellow, and subsequently Staff Fellow/Clinical Associate for approximately 1-1/2 year at the NIDDK, NIH]. 

With a remarkable 40+ years of clinical experience, Dr. Bekele holds board certifications in internal medicine and endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism from the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is also recognized as a Fellow of The American College of Endocrinology (FACE),  highlighting his commitment to excellence in patient care and medical practice.

Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Bekele has made significant contributions to the medical field through teachings, academic research and publications in international journals.
