Fight Fibromyalgia Pain with These Remedies

Intense, chronic, and excruciating are just three ways to describe the pain that comes with fibromyalgia. Fibro pain is likely one of the most common and debilitating symptoms of the disease and those who are unlucky enough to develop the disorder are always on the look-out for different ways to find relief.

Fibro, as it’s commonly called, is an anomaly.  Doctors don’t really know what causes it, they only know that when it hits, their patients have to deal with chronic pain, extreme fatigue, and cognitive issues that are known as “the fibro fog”.  What doctors do know is that symptoms of fibromyalgia can sometimes crop-up after illness, injury or other forms of physical or mental trauma, which is often misdiagnosed.

Fibro patients often have to undergo a huge lifestyle shift after they develop the disease. This is because the disorder is unpredictable and can make day-to-day activities virtually impossible. This is especially true for those who have to deal with the chronic pain that is associated with the disease.  Unfortunately, for many patients, it’s impossible to know when they will have a bad day.

They can’t decide that they will not have any pain on Tuesday because that’s the day they planned on going shopping with friends.  So, they don’t know when they will have a flare-up but they do know that when those bad days hit, it’s nice to have a small toolbox of different ways to cope with the pain and other symptoms of fibro.

One of the easiest and most common ways to treat fibro pain is the use of pain relievers.  For those who suffer from relatively minor fibro pain, it might be as simple as popping a few over-the-counter pain reducers every few hours. For other patients though, those who suffer from the debilitating pain, there might be a need for stronger medication. Thankfully, there are a number of different types of medication that can be used by Fibro sufferers.

Pain Relievers

Whether they are over-the-counter or not, they can obviously help reduce pain but, what many patients don’t realize is that they can also aid with reducing inflammation, minimizing muscular aches and even improving a person’s sleep.

Antidepressants

This medication can help with more than just enhancing moods, it can also be used to help fibro patients with managing pain and fatigue.  This type is medication is best used under the guidance of a doctor as it can have negative side effects and the dosage isn’t always straightforward.

Anticonvulsants

Also known as seizure medication, which can also help with pain. Pregabalin, the first anti-seizure drug medication approved by the US Food and Drug Administration to help treat fibro pain. Another option is the use of a drug called Gabapentin, which also helps with the reduction of nerve pain.  Again, this medication must be used under doctors’ orders and all patients need to be well aware of some of the possible side effects that can range from dizziness to swelling, to weight gain and others.
