Urologist Questions Urinary Incontinence

Can smoking cause urinary incontinence?

I am a 36 year old man, and lately, I'm suffering from urinary incontinence. I never had this problem before, and I think I'm a little too young for it. I am also a chain smoker. Could the two be related?

Yes, when people smoke they tend to cough more. The added stress on the urethra and muscles surrounding the urethra can become weak and lead to incontinence. You should be evaluated and try to quit smoking if possible.
Smoking is the leading cause for bladder cancer. Advanced bladder cancer could cause urinary incontinence depending on what structures it invades. An appointment with a urologist is advised.

Probably not (but always a possibility) but you definitely want to see a Urologist for an evaluation as incontinence in someone your age is distinctly unusual.
