OB-GYN (Obstetrician-Gynecologist) Questions C-Section (Cesarean Birth)

How long should one wait after c-section to get pregnant?

What's the time of recovery for a classical c-section? How long should one wait before trying to get pregnant after having a c-section?

The recommendation following a classical c-section is typically at least a year before conceiving. Even with a transverse cut on the uterus, it is recommended to wait at least a year. If you should get pregnant before that time, you run an increased risk of placenta previa or the placenta growing in to the scar on the uterus (acreta or increta). That risk is increased in classical c-sections. Placenta acreta/increta increases the risk of hemorrhage at delivery and increases the possibility that emergency hysterectomy may be needed.

Important to re-establish menstrual cycles prior to another pregnancy. Also, need to factor in breast feeding. I would say three months would be reasonable before another attempt after delivery.
