Neurosurgeon Questions Spina Bifida

Is surgery for spina bifida throughout an infant's life?

My friend's son was diagnosed with spina bifida while the baby was in utero, and he was treated while in the womb. But after he was born, he still had to go through surgery a couple more times. Is this defect a lifetime? Would he need to have more surgeries to manage it?

There is an increased chance of requiring future surgery depending on the type of spina bifida. This is best discussed with a pediatric neurosurgeon.
