Why do I see some blood when I floss?
Blood while flossing is usually an indicator of gingivitis. Blood usually shows up when you floss 2 or 3 times a week due to the infrequency of the flossing. Bacteria can accumulate in the mouth and start to cause gingivitis after about 24 hours so it is critical to floss on a daily basis to break it up. When you floss on a daily basis and there is blood, you are probably flossing too hard. Your best bet is to go to your dentist and get a cleaning and check up to make sure you are doing your daily cleaning properly. READ MORE

The graft is a permanent procedure. However that does not mean you cannot lose it again from poor hygiene and recurrent periodontal disease. The bottom line is that you have to maintain it. READ MORE

Yes, you can get Invisalign with an implant. However, the implant will not move. The treatment will have to take that into consideration when it is being planned and it may effect the overall look of the orthodontics. Which brand of mouthwash kills the most bacteria?
The mouthwash that kills the most bacteria is Listerine. However, it kills the good and bad bacteria in the mouth so you should use it sparingly and mouthwash is not a replacement for flossing. We suggest using mouthwash with Fluoride in it like ACT. Remember, mouthwash should be used as a supplement not a substitute for brushing and flossing. READ MORE
Is it OK to brush gums?
It is not only okay, it is essential. Plaque and build-up can accumulate on the gums just like the teeth. You do have to be careful when you brush them, use a soft toothbrush, and gentle brushing techniques. READ MORE
How do you reduce swelling from an infected tooth?
Swelling can be relieved temporarily with an ice pack to the area, 15 minutes on and 15 minutes off until you can get in to get the tooth treated. Ibuprofen can help with the inflammation. You best bet is to go to your dentist and have the area evaluated. They may give you an antibiotic to stop the infection. They may need to irrigate and drain the area if the swelling is really bad. Actually it is the exact opposite. Braces will put your teeth in the most ideal position if done correctly. This should make your bite ideal and may actually prevent TMJ from occurring or it may make it go away if you already have it. The answer is yes, if you do not wear your retainer for the rest of your life. Your teeth are very mobile after orthodontic treatment. They will tighten up eventually, however, they will move again over time if they are not kept in check with the retainers. READ MORE

Smoking constricts the blood flow and inhibits it from reaching the surgical site slowing the healing. Less blood flow means less available nutrients to help with the healing process. Swelling after a bone graft should be minimal if it is done correctly. Generally, bone grafts are placed when there is an absence of infection. A course of antibiotics will be given if there was an infection prior to treatment. The tooth is then removed and the bone graft is placed. The combination of antibiotics treatment and safe removal of the tooth and debris will make the swelling of the area much more likely not to swell.
