HEALTHJOURNEYS
Michelle King Breast Cancer - Inflammatory

Being in my 60s my husband and I decided that we want to spend time traveling so we booked a 3 week holiday to Hawaii and after receiving my letter to have my regular 2 yearly mammogram I decided to go and have it 2 days prior to leaving. As I had NO symptoms, I thought just get it over and done with and enjoy our holiday....

What symptoms led up to your diagnosis?

I had no symptoms. Every 2 years I went for my mammogram as I have done for many years. Being in my 60s I never missed my regular Mammogram and my husband and I had booked a 3 week trip to Hawaii so I wanted to have it before leaving, so 2 days prior to leaving I went and as I said, I had no symptoms

What tests did your doctor do, and what was this experience like?

The Mammogram was never a comfortable experience but was always over and done with ease and never felt invasive to me just a little uncomfortable.

Upon learning about your diagnosis, what happened next?

Arriving home from our Hawaii trip I had a letter advising me that something was found and needed further investigation and an appointment was already made for me at the Breast Clinic....So further ultrasounds, mammogram and biopsy I waited for another 5 days for the results and found breast cancer in my milk ducts....NO LUMP...That's right NO LUMP, so without the regular test I would never have known...eventually about 3 weeks I had a double mastectomy and I am so glad that I endeavored to go to my 2 yearly mammogram.
