Can Detoxing Help Ease Fibromyalgia Symptoms?

Can Detoxing Help Ease Fibromyalgia Symptoms?

Many fibromyalgia patients have to deal with mystery symptoms for years before getting a proper diagnosis. And. once they receive a diagnosis, the struggle is far from over. With fibromyalgia, patients are often left to their own devices and figure out on their own what helps to ease symptoms.

One non traditional option that many have found successful, is detoxing, a more holistic approach.

A detox is designed to flush out the bad toxins and bacteria in the body to ensure that the body's nutrients and vitamins are doing their job.  Before undergoing any kind of detox treatment, talk to a certified holistic medicine practitioner, naturopathic physician or even a doctor.

Where should patients start?

Generally, practitioners will suggest starting with a nutritional detox and shifting the diet to include more fresh produce and clean foods. A healthy individual will be able to easily flush out toxins as they build-up in the system. Think about how people usually feel after they have overindulged. They experience bloating, headaches, and sluggishness. For a healthy person, a few days of eating normally, and increasing their water intake, will easily set the clock back and leave them feeling like their old selves soon again.

Fibro patients often have a build-up of toxins. If the toxins are allowed to remain, it makes all of those fibro symptoms that much worse. This is why many holistic practitioners recommend a nutritional detoxification.

The first step is to find a holistic medicine practitioner who can help guide the patient. They can help to make sure a safe program is chosen. There are many great recipes for smoothies and other treats that use the “superfoods” that are known to flush out toxins.

But what about all those other toxins?

We live in an age of convenience. There isn't much that can’t be “grabbed” on the go.  Even though most of the toxins that humans have contact with are not ingested, they are still capable of building up in the body.

Here are some other minor things you can do to help fight back against the toxins:

 - Ditching the coffee take-out cups and start using a reusable travel mug

 - Use natural household cleaners made with vinegar, baking soda and essential oils rather than commercially-made cleaners.

 - Prepare your own meals to avoid using processed foods as well as plastic containers and utensils.
